Part Three - Discovery House - Day one of one

Continued...

He abruptly stood up as if nothing was wrong and looked back at the gate. “A spot of oil next time, I think,” he said and walked down the path to his front door. Dawn sneered at him as he danced passed his wife and entered the house.

“I’d better go, Dawn, I need to give him his instructions,” said Jean.

“Like most men, he won’t listen. I’ll see you Friday, Jean,” said Dawn and headed back up the path, stepping over the crushed gate in the process.

Geoff looked at himself in the hall mirror. He palm-brushed his thinning black hair back over his head and straightened his shirt and tie.

“I’ll just get changed,” he said watching Jean entering the kitchen. “I’ll fix the fence later.”

“That’s fine,” replied Jean, “I was getting Lisa’s and Jamie’s dinner before Mrs. Hiccup called. When you get back, remember it’s Tuesday, I’m straight out to night school,”

“At the same time remind my daughter to be home before half past ten, otherwise the scumbag she is out with will feel the wrath of my rounded golf clubs.”

Jean tried to lighten his opinion, “I’m sure he’s very likable, Lisa likes him.”

“I don’t think a young man who phones up after ten o’clock and visits burger emporiums can be considered very likable. I mean what is happening to young kids today, it’s all drugs, drink and...erm” he paused quickly thinking, “...erm, Space Invaders, just wait until Lisa brings him home, I’ll make him wish he had never met my daughter.”

“Yes, I’m sure you will.”

Geoff took off his tie whilst walking up the stairs. He quickly donned his tennis gear, grabbed his racket and bag, kissed his wife, hugged his son and drove to the local leisure center not knowing his lack of do it yourself would soon kill him.
